A MESSAGE FROM GOODWILL

โ™ป๏ธ Earth Day

Happy Earth Day from your local Goodwill, who's been reducing, reusing, and recycling long before it was trendy!

Here are three ways our local Goodwill is making a real difference for our planet:

  1. 17 million pounds were diverted from landfills in 2025 thanks to Goodwill's donated goods program.

    • Did you know? The fashion industry is one of the world's biggest polluters, and a large portion of those 17 million pounds was clothing. When you buy clothes at Goodwill, you're making a difference. But what happens when an item isn't sold? Goodwill recycles it responsibly.

  1. Goodwill is a plastic bag-free retailer. Bring your own reusable bag or grab one in-store. It's a small swap that adds up to a big impact.

  1. 900 million pounds of computer equipment have been responsibly recycled through their Dell Reconnect program since 2024. Old remotes, chargers, cables gathering dust? Donate them โ€” they'll take it from there.

Join Goodwill's mission to promote sustainability and treat every day like it's Earth Day.

๐ŸŒ๏ธ Fellowship Beyond the Game

Twilight Golf Club (TGC) isn't your average golf club; it's a nonprofit on a mission to build lasting community and make the game accessible to everyone.

  • Backstory: Local Stephen Edwards started TGC by accident! In August 2020, he organized an outing for his friends at Reynolds Park Golf Course. They continued meeting to play, and in 2021, he incorporated TGC as a nonprofit.

  • Mission: TGC's primary partner is First Tee Triad, an organization that provides free golf coaching and mentorship to underserved youth. Stephen describes it as โ€œBig Brothers Big Sisters meets golf.โ€

    • Since its founding, TGC has donated over $50,000 to First Tee Triad and other organizations like WSSUโ€™s golf team.

  • Why Twilight Exists: There's a gap in golf that doesn't get talked about enough: public golfers don't have community. Private club memberships are out of reach for many people, so TGC fills that void by offering the same sense of belonging and structure without the price tag.

  • Get Involved: Become a TGC member, join their summer league at Reynolds Park and other local courses from May 1 to July 31, and mark your calendars for the Twilight Open on August 4 at Reynolds Park!

๐Ÿฅณ Congrats! You got a tax refund. Now what? The urge to spend it fast is real. But this year, what if you let it work for you?

  • Park it in savings: Moving your refund out of your checking account and into savings creates distance from impulse spending.

  • Chip away at debt: Even putting a portion toward a lingering balance reduces what you owe and frees up room in your monthly budget.

  • Let it keep growing โ€” automatically: With Make$ents, every debit card purchase rounds up and the spare change flows into your savings. Plus, Piedmont Federal Bank matches 15% of what you save each month.
