🎓 University: $500K. That’s how much WSSU received from the Cannon Family Charitable Trust to launch ASCENDNC, a new graduate prep program. What: Volunteers at Project Buddy Bears sew together patchwork teddy bears for local children going through difficult times. Local resident Pat Taylor created it in 2019 to cope with the grief of losing her son.

How It Works: The nonprofit partners with law enforcement, fire & emergency services, and child & family services to get the bears to the kids who need them most. To date, over 3,000 have been distributed!

Get Involved: Volunteers meet every Thursday morning at South Fork Recreation Center to sew and stuff the bears — no sewing experience required. Interested in joining? Send them a message!
