Carter Falls | 921 Pleasant Ridge Rd, Elkin | A half-mile hike gets you to one of the area's best waterfalls and swimming holes. If you decide to explore, watch your step: those rocks are slipperier than they look.

Tanglewood Park Aquatic Center | There are lots of options here: a wading pool, a splash pad, a large main pool with slides, and a winding tubing river. Good to know: They offer season passes!

Kernersville Family YMCA | Members get access to the only YMCA in the region that has an outdoor pool with slides.
