🌳 A Tour of Tanglewood
Most people know Tanglewood Park for the Festival of Lights, but for the other 10 months of the year, this 1,100-acre gem in Clemmons is one of the best parks in the area. Use our guide to plan your next trip!
Here's what's actually inside:
Backstory: Before it was a park, Tanglewood was the private estate of William Neal Reynolds, brother of R.J. Reynolds. When he died in 1951, he left the whole property to Forsyth County as a public park.
On the Water: Take a pedal boat out on Mallard Lake, fish at Skilpot Lake (kids under 12 fish free!), or cool off at the Aquatic Center, which has a main pool, a splash pad, and a winding lazy river.
On a Horse: Tanglewood Stables offers guided trail rides (ages 6+), pony rides, riding lessons, and hayrides for up to 25 people — including seasonal themed rides like the pumpkin patch hayride. Call (336) 766-9540 to book; cash or check only.
On a Trail: There's a 3.16-mile paved multi-use trail, 2 nature trail loops, mountain bike trails for beginner to advanced riders, and a BMX track.
On the Playground: Two spots to let kids explore: one near Mallard Lake (shaded) and a newly rebuilt one by Shelter #4. Don't skip the historic train next to the Aquatic Center (a kid favorite).
On the Green (and Court): Tanglewood covers all the bases with golf courses, tennis courts, family-friendly Softgolf, and a state-of-the-art disc golf area opening late summer 2026.
✅ Those home updates you've been putting off? It's finally time. Worth Painting can take care of it.
Those shutters that are peeling… and you never even liked the color.
That fence you put in years ago — unstained, still waiting.
Your faded and worn deck that you've been hesitant to host on this summer.
Your front door that's seen better days and is due for a fresh coat.
Your whole home, looking dull, ready for a big transformation with fresh paint or limewash.
