🏗️ Your Update on The Grounds
Winston-Salem’s most anticipated development is taking shape, and there’s a lot to catch up on! Here’s where The Grounds stands today.
Background: The Grounds is a 100-acre mixed-use development that broke ground in 2024, bringing restaurants, retail, student housing, trails, and condos together in one connected hub.
Over its first 10 years, it’s projected to generate $1.3 billion in economic impact for our community. Phase I is expected to be completed by August 2027.
Restored Creek: Most people know Silas Creek as a road, but it’s also an actual creek! The Grounds restored it with 200+ trees and 30,000 native plants, creating a natural space in the heart of the development.
Vertical Development: The 100,000 sq. ft. office building is underway, Creekside student housing (which will have 229 units) is well into construction, and the Retail Village is about to break ground.
Connectivity: The new configuration of the University Parkway and N. Cherry Street intersection converted the old lane to green space and created safer crossings.
A 13-foot-wide, 1.5-mile loop multi-use trail along Silas Creek that includes access points into the Retail Village is nearly complete.
Retail Village: Breaking ground in a few weeks, the 42,000 sq. ft. Retail Village spans 5 buildings and is already 70% leased. Think local coffee, fitness experiences, fine dining, and more — with zero national chains.
Building A - 3 units
Building B - 2 units with rooftop
Building C - 5 units with condos above
Building D - Single-concept food & beverage space with rooftop (~8,000 sq. ft. total)
Building E - 2 larger units with condos above
Gathering Areas: Thoughtfully placed gathering areas, play spaces, and an outdoor stage built for live music, yoga, movie nights, and more.
