👷♂️ An Update on The Grounds
The Grounds is increasing connectivity in the area! A new multi-use path and the redesign of the University/Cherry intersection will create a gateway linking The Grounds to Wake Forest and nearby neighborhoods.
What: The new multi-use path will connect Faculty Drive to The Grounds. The current split at University/Cherry will be reconfigured into one signalized intersection with a crosswalk and pedestrian signal.
Why It Matters: Currently, there’s no safe pedestrian route from Wake Forest’s campus to the athletic facilities and the future site of The Grounds. This project will improve safety, traffic flow, and walkability for students, visitors, and the community.
When: Construction begins early this month. Expect intermittent lane closures, though the intersection won’t fully close at any point. Work is projected to conclude this summer.
Catch Up Quick: The Grounds is an upcoming 100-acre mixed-use development on Deacon Boulevard that will feature a retail village, apartments, a greenway, and more.
