Backstory: When Max and his wife, Lauren, moved to Winston-Salem from Los Angeles, he quickly noticed something was missing: the kind of stores he loved back in California.

Early Days: Max filled that gap by launching Fancy Groceries, a menswear store. The business started as a pop-up at Winston Junction Market, spent several years at Ardmore Barber Shop (where he also started Sunday Socials, an outdoor mini-market), and finally got its own Trade Street storefront in 2024.

The Shop: Expect high-quality men's clothing made from natural materials, a coffee bar, and a rustic, welcoming atmosphere that turns customers into regulars.

Trade Street Farmers Market: Max wanted to bring the energy of his Sunday Socials from Ardmore Barber Shop to Trade Street, so last October, he launched a Sunday market with just 14 vendors. A year later, it's grown to 42 vendors and draws around 3,500 shoppers. The next one is this Sunday!

What’s Next: Max plans to open Fancy Groceries For Her, a women's clothing pop-up, next door in mid-October. It could become permanent after the holidays.
